Greens Report March 2018
Welcome to my March Greens Report.
Amongst and around the snow, ice and bitterly cold Easterlies Gordon, Craig and Jamie have continued their sterling work as, when and where possible. Laying new turf has progressed particularly well and you will now see smart new areas on the 1st, 8th and between the 11th and 12th. More work will shortly be carried out on levelling the back of the 13th tee and a few other ‘worn’ areas around the course.
A course Maintenance Week, (see club website calendar), will commence Monday 19 March. As always, the course will remain, (hopefully all holes by then), open but please respect the needs of the team and have a chat as you pass them on the course for their latest updates. The main task that week will be micro coring all the greens as Spring approaches!
Of interest Gordon has only just been able to get back on the greens to cut them after a ten day washed out, icy and snowy period and last Saturday, March 3rd, we were the only Golf Course open in Cornwall! Testament indeed to the hardy nature of both our course and our green keepers.
Our new, improved, electric green cutter has now been supplied. A combination of this coming into use shortly, the micro coring and subsequent over seeding means the greens will be better than ever from early in the new season.
As the temperatures start to rise in early April the fairway and rough cuts, plus the application of weed killer, will bring back the true definition and lush areas that we love to see all around our course.
The new golfing season approaches fast. Enjoy your rounds in the better weather and continue to assist and respect Gordon and the team in maintaining our fairways and greens in pristine condition.
