Men's Club Championship

Saturday and Sunday saw the playing of the Men's Club Championships over 36 holes.

After the first round things were close at the top of both leaderboards with Kyle Fraser leading the scratch competition with a 69 followed closely by Chris Harris on 70 with Josh Chaplin a further shot behind, and Alex Mchugh and Jamie Greet a further 2 shots back.

In the handicap competition it was even closer with 5 players on nett 68, Kyle, Chris and Josh together with Sam Rule and Scott Paterson.  4 others were only 1 shot back, Steve Briers, Paul Mchugh, Paul Huckle and Neville Barker.  And with a further 13 players within 4 shots of the leaders it looked like a good battle on the second round for the prizes.

Sunday was again a good day for the competition with warm conditions and very little wind.

Again good scores were returned in the net competition with 17 players shooting par or less.  Leading the way with a net 63 was George Popperwell which added to his first day net 75 set a target of 138.  This was matched by Rhys Kerton who followed his first day 73 with a 65.  Joint leader from the first round Scott Paterson added another 68 to go into the lead with 136.  He was however beaten into second place when Sam Rule returned a net 67 to total 135 and win by 1 shot.

In the scratch competition the early pacemakers were George and Rhys with their gross 67 and 70 respectively, which gave them totals for the 2 rounds of 146 and 148.

Jamie Greet however surged into the lead with a gross 69 to lead on 142, and with the final grouping on 18, it required a birdie from Kyle to pip Jamie or a par to force a playoff. Unfortunately, Kyle could only manage to bogey the last ensuring Jamie of victory and his first club championship.
