September Greenkeeping Report

Hi everyone,
As you will all have seen the practice net frame has been turned to face the pro shop and the two new archery nets have been fitted. Thanks to Justin for his help with this, I have received a lot of positive comments. Gordon has got some Astro turf to cover the exposed concrete which will tidy the whole area.
All of the greens have now been cored and dressed and hopefully soon we will all see a marked improvement. Greens 14, 11 and the putting green have had a biology treatment to further improve their condition. The water content of our greens has been tested and has been found to be very low. This is due to our water supply drying up this summer and at present is again very low. Talking to the green staff this week it has been suggested that MGC should look into the possibility of drilling our own bore hole in anticipation of future hot summers. I personally think this could be a very sound investment for our club . Maybe we can discuss this at our next meeting.
Gordon’s is now ready to come back to work full time. This is very welcome news. I would also like to thank Craig, James and Chris for all their hard work through a very difficult and very hot summer. They have kept our course in great condition, it is only due to the lack of rain and our water supply drying up that some of our greens have suffered.
See you all on Wednesday.
Dale Wilson.
